India’s Ministry of Human Resource & Development is to create 32 educational channels which it will broadcast via DTH signals.
The plan is to broadcast live lectures from some of India’s “top-class” educational institutions.
“The government is focusing on using space technology to expand the reach of high quality education.
Through the 32 DTH channels the aim is to ensure that live classrooms can be transmitted from ten ‘Teaching Ends’ out of which six will be located in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Guwahati”, according to senior officials.
Not less than 12 institutes will provide live lectures that will be covered and transmitted. Note that these channels will be available free of cost on Doordarshan’s Free Dish DTH platform. The only thing needed by student is a suitable Set Top Box. Students will also be able to interact live with the teachers while the latter are delivering their lessons live with multimedia material on the channels.
